Topaz Skate Park wayfinding

Location

Victoria, BC

A dynamic new skatepark and bike skills zone brought a much needed lift to Victoria’s Topaz Park. The City of Victoria and contractor New Line Skateparks brought us on board to design the wayfinding system for the 6,000m2 bike park and 3,000m2 all-wheels skatepark, with accessibility and safety front of mind.

To reflect the park’s youthful users, we customized City of Victoria signage standards with a look and feel inspired by the varied terrain of the skate bowl and pump track. Contour line graphics appear as a motif across both signage and a walkway through the skatepark that invites pedestrians, skaters, and bikers to share the space.

Areas of impact

At the park’s entrance, a welcome sign literally curves into the park with a set-out panel drawing attention to a series of interactive sculptures by artist Germaine Koh.
