The Corporation of Delta envisioned a revitalized facility that made economic use of the existing buildings, while establishing a new delightful and dynamic user experience.

Sungod Recreation Centre reimagines two previously aging buildings to form a dynamic new community facility. The rehabilitation and expansion of the arena and pool dispels any doubts about how architecture can retain existing structures and re-use existing buildings to provide a delightful user experience and even rejuvenate a community’s interest in recreation and sport.

Since its completion, visits to the facility have increased significantly. The expansion and renovation of the existing multipurpose community recreation facility provides a new ice sheet slab and boards for an ice arena, three new pools, common areas, multi-purpose space, outdoor courtyard, community sports gymnasium, weight room, fitness area and aerobic studios.
