UBC Okanagan Green Building Standards

Location

Kelowna, BC

UBC Okanagan (UBCO) collaborated with hcma to develop the UBC Okanagan Design Guidelines Part 2 – Green Building Standards. The Green Building Standards align and consolidate existing policy, performance goals, and design direction pre-established in multiple policies and guidance documents, with the aim of communicating design requirements concisely, and in one place. The standards are designed to support building performance aligned with the UBCO Climate Action Plan 2030 operational targets and Whole System Infrastructure Plan 2050 goals.

To inform the content of the Green Building Standards, hcma conducted a policy and technical guideline assessment to evaluate alignment, overlap, and gaps in existing policies. This work included multiple stakeholder workshops with the UBCO team to support cross-functional buy-in; drafting language for the Standards; alignment with technical guidelines; and document design guidance.
