Port Moody Recreation Centre Addition

Location

Port Moody, BC

The Port Moody Recreation Centre provides a major athletic and sport destination for the city and surrounding area. A series of new additions, completed in 2008, transformed the centre into one athletic complex, tying together three existing components: ice arena, curling rink and social recreation centre.

Key new programmatic components include a second ice arena, a double gymnasium, running track, multi-purpose spaces, tennis courts, all-weather artificial turf playing field, field house, a fitness facility complete with aerobics room, and change rooms with associated spa.

Areas of impact

A new international-sized ice rink with some second-level bleacher seating served as one of the training facilities for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The double gymnasium with its second level track features large extents of diffused day-lighting, making it the dynamic and attractive “heart” of the new facility, as well as a recognizable and stunning beacon at the centre of this city’s expanding downtown.
