Douglas College Student Services Renovation

The vision for student services at Douglas College was to create a one-stop shop at the heart of the New Westminster campus, bringing together the registrar’s office, international student services, student affairs, and enrollment services. This vision built on the master plan hcma completed in 2016, which identified a desire for key departments to be closer to one another.
Our design set out to open up the existing registrar’s office to the surrounding atrium, centralizing the various student services, while providing spaces for waiting, collaboration, self-service, reception, and advising offices.

Enrolment services now welcomes students immediately upon arrival, with entries into other key departments clearly visible from this central space. Here, students can come for information and for guidance, whether it be a quick conversation with an advisor, access to a self-service kiosk, or a quiet meeting. Individual meeting rooms and pods occur throughout the space to facilitate these staff and student interactions, with partition creating distinct functional areas of varying levels of visual and acoustic privacy.
The result is a welcoming, open, and inviting student hub that supports a successful post-secondary experience.
