Saint Laurent Sports Complex

Location

Montreal, Quebec

hcma designed the Saint-Laurent Sports Complex in collaboration with Saucier + Perrotte Architects. The facility is situated between the existing Émile Legault School and Raymond Bourque Arena, both of which are horizontal in form and neutral in character, and complements a neighbouring library, park, and museum.

For this project, it became vital for the new sports complex to create a visual and physical link between the Marcel Laurin Park (to the north of the site), and the projected green band that will run along Thimens Boulevard. The project features a distinct urban branding image and wayfinding strategy intended to heighten public awareness and association with the complex.

The complex is a hub of sport and physical activity and is a multipurpose gathering place that is green and alive. North of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, the 14,500 m2 facility is located on the Boulevard Thimens municipal axis.

The facility includes an indoor soccer field, a 25-metre pool, a leisure pool, a gymnasium, a fitness room as well as several other spaces, including a multipurpose room. In keeping with Montréal’s policy on sustainable development for municipal buildings, the facility received LEED Gold certification.
