Vancouver School Board Long-Range Facilities Plan identity
Location
Vancouver, BC
Schools shape the leaders of the future. A sustainable, long-range plan for the Vancouver School Board envisions the future of Vancouver schools and includes seismic upgrades to existing facilities, temporary accommodation for students during these upgrades, and the consideration of closures in communities with declining enrolment. Vibrant branding and clear messaging helped to engage the public and gain valuable public input surrounding the future of the schools.

Design Response
When assisting with strategic planning, facilities assessment and temporary accommodation planning, our architectural team saw the opportunity for our Communications Design team to support the project’s branding and communications to support public perception and understanding of this report.
Using the concept of skipping stones on a pathway, we created a brand identity for digital and print to communicate a complex message clearly and simply. The brand identity was used both for the report and to engage with the public at events. An identity toolkit was also provided for future digital and print needs related to the facilities plan.
I wanted to pass along the ‘good work’ comments that I have received from senior staff on the report. They loved the simplicity of the graphics, that the presentation touched on the big factors to give a thorough understanding of the issue and how prepared we were.
