Careers

At hcma, we're driven by the desire to create happier, healthier, more connected communities. That's why we're always looking for like-minded individuals who share our commitment to positive impact.

Are you driven by impact?

At hcma, we want to live in a world where people feel connected to their communities. Where we can work together to make a lasting difference to the issues that matter. Design alone can’t fix them. Nor strategy, architecture, or engagement. But together, our combined expertise can make a difference.

Bring your curiosity

Curiosity is a big part of our approach, because it helps us create the lasting impact we want to see in the world. Our Tilt curiosity lab is just one of the many ways we encourage each other to challenge conventions and explore new thinking. Curious to learn more? Who is design for? At hcma, we’re asking big questions about how we can help solve some of the world’s wicked challenges, through design. We create buildings, brands and shared experiences that connect people – all driven by a genuine spirit of curiosity and care.

We are interdisciplinary by intention. Designers, architects, researchers, strategists and others, all working together to create the lasting change we want to see in our communities.

And that’s where (we hope!) you come in.

We are looking to add an Architect (or soon to be registered Architect) to our team. If you enjoy weaving curiosity and social impact into the future of architectural thinking, we want to hear from you. This role will support our current work in master planning, Indigenous-led projects, social housing, and other values-driven initiatives that put community well-being at the forefront.

You’re well-suited for this Architect position if you:

· Are passionate about architecture and design’s role in solving complex societal challenges

· Offer at least four years of post-graduation architectural experience, and are either registered with the AIBC or on the path toward registration.

· Have a background in housing typologies and are eager to apply and expand that experience in socially and community-focused housing projects

· Have a progressive understanding of architecture, the design of public spaces, and future technology trends

· Approach design with an inclusive and culturally responsive lens

· Appreciate high-quality architectural design and the ability to apply rigor and design intent to all levels of the process

· Have experience in developing projects from start to finish with minimum supervision, including conceptualizing, designing, construction, contract documents, and liaising with contractors, specialist sub-consultants, and clients

· Bring strong digital design skills, with proficiency in Revit and Rhino

· Bring strong organizational skills, balancing priorities and keeping projects moving forward.

· Contribute strong design ideas in the early stages of projects and help translate them into compelling, buildable outcomes

· Are committed to professionalism and can either self-direct your work or collaborate as a team

We are looking for people who:

· Demonstrate design excellence through a strong portfolio of work

· Bring a spirit of curiosity and care to the design process, while holding onto the rigor needed to make ideas real

· Show sound judgement and thoughtful decision-making, building trust as a strong relationship builder in their work

· Communicate with clarity (written and verbal) bringing a positive, team orientated outlook

Salary range: $73K - $90K
