Accessibility Coordinator

Who is design for? At hcma, we’re asking big questions about how we can help solve some of the world’s wicked challenges, through design. We create buildings, brands and shared experiences that connect people – all driven by a genuine spirit of curiosity and care.

We are interdisciplinary by intention. Designers, architects, researchers, strategists and others, all working together to create the lasting change we want to see in our communities.

And that’s where (we hope!) you come in.

We are looking to add an Accessibility Coordinator to our team. If you are motivated by the challenge of promoting inclusivity through thoughtful design, we want to hear from you!

As an Accessibility Coordinator, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct comprehensive site visits and accessibility audits, including Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) ratings assessments.
  • Document site conditions, take measurements, complete checklists, and annotate architectural drawings to provide clear, actionable insights.
  • Organize and manage data using the RHFAC Registry and Excel, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support the implementation of accessibility standards and guidelines, such as CSA B651 and RHFAC.
  • Assist in developing detailed, insightful reports and presentations with recommendations for enhancing accessibility.

What you’ll bring:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a design or consulting environment, with knowledge of accessibility standards, especially RHFAC, CSA B651, and other relevant guidelines.
  • Degree, diploma, or certificate in a design discipline (Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, or similar) or an equivalent combination of skills and experience. Completion of the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification Professional training course is required; RHFAC Professional designation is preferred.
  • Strong observational skills to accurately document site conditions and annotate architectural drawings.
  • Ability to communicate findings effectively through written reports and presentations.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), with working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign (basic to intermediate level). Familiarity with CAD and Revit software is an asset.

If you’re ready to make a real impact in inclusive design, send us your resume and a cover letter on why you’re the right addition to your team. Email us at careers@hcma.ca; we look forward to hearing from you!

Salary range: $50,000 - $65,000
