Who is design for? At hcma, we’re asking big questions about how we can help solve some of the world’s wicked challenges, through design. We create buildings, brands and shared experiences that connect people – all driven by a genuine spirit of curiosity and care.
We are interdisciplinary by intention. Designers, architects, researchers, strategists and others, all working together to create the lasting change we want to see in our communities.
And that’s where (we hope!) you come in.
Who is this person?
This design role, within the Communication Design team, is focused on all aspects of graphic design, brand identity design, publications, engagement materials, and support for wayfinding, and signage concepts for built-environment projects.
You’ll work on both client-facing projects and hybrid collaborations with the architecture team, integrating graphic design elements into larger architectural initiatives. In addition, you will contribute to internal marketing and communication efforts, ensuring that the firm’s visual identity is consistently upheld. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your design skills, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to both creative and technical design work in a dynamic environment.

- Development of brand design concepts for external client projects from brainstorming, concept development, to execution and rollout.
- Preparation of mood boards, mockups, and visual presentations for internal reviews and client presentation to support project pitches and client meetings. Ensure that design concepts are communicated clearly, effectively and professionally.
- Collaborating with marketing and communications teams to create materials that promote the firm’s services, values and culture. Design marketing collateral such as brochures, banners, posters, and social media assets.
- Designing internal collateral such as presentations, branded swag, toolkits and event graphics.
- Defining hcma brand graphic standards and contributing to style guides; collaborating with team members to ensure a cohesive visual identity across both internal and external deliverables.
- Mentoring, knowledge-sharing and guidance with junior designers when needed.
- Support with environmental graphics and signage for architectural projects if requested.
- Working to achieve client needs, championing best practices (especially in inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability) and keeping up to date with latest design trends, tools and technologies and apply this knowledge to enhance the quality and creativity of design solutions.
What experience will they have?
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic or Communication Design, or similar field
- 5+ years' experience of design and production in both print and digital on a variety of briefs, either working at an agency or in-house
- Creative vision and flexibility: you can offer a variety of innovative design solutions to a brief that meet project goals and client expectations

- An aptitude for communicating complex ideas clearly through communication design
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and presentation skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience in web design, motion graphics and/or data visualization a plus
