hcma and KPMB have been shortlisted in the design competition for a new community recreation centre at Ramsden Park in Toronto. The team, whose two firms have a history of collaborating, is one of five advancing to the conceptual design phase of the competition.

The future Ramsden Park Community Recreation Centre will front Ramsden Park in midtown Toronto, near the Rosedale Subway Station. According to the City of Toronto, the building will be accessible and net-zero emissions, and will house pools, a gymnasium with a running track, and a range of multi-use spaces.

The two-stage design competition was launched by the City of Toronto in August 2025. The first phase required interested firms to submit their qualifications, with the highest-scoring applicants then selected to develop conceptual designs.

Each team will present their conceptual design to the competition jury, composed of industry professionals, the City of Toronto, and a Community Advisory Committee of individuals representing key stakeholder groups.

The conceptual designs will also be released publicly to solicit feedback from city residents and contribute to informing the jury’s decision. The winner of the competition will be announced in fall 2026.

hcma and KPMB have an established history of working together. Past collaborations include the Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre, Audain Art Centre, and Ponderosa Commons at the University of British Columbia.
