What would engage the community here?

What is this?

What is this?

We want to look at spaces, places, architecture and design with fresh eyes – yours.

An essential question around the HCMA studios is: "What's Possible?" For a street? A community plan? A pool? A school? A...home page?

We post images and questions that relate to discussions around the studio. If you see something that sparks your curiosity, tell us what you think. You can check out other people's contributions too by viewing all responses.

A single comment, a debate or a consensus could cause a shift, that shifts everything.

Welcome to the conversation.

Bike & pedestrian paths serpentining and connecting frequent 'nodes' such as pocket parks, food stalls, interpretive points, patches of community gardening, etc. These would provide an opportunity to pass through as well as to stop frequently and engage with spaces, activities and people. A linear neighbourhood and all that that offers. The possibilities are exciting!

I think a marketplace would be a good idea as the railway (if unused) can be used as a single lane that takes you through the various food places and small shops and would liven up such a bland and unused place

something that would enable people to walk/access the other side of the tracks without having to squeeze through parked cars, uneven land and railway tracks; not sure if the railway tracks are used? if so, how much space is needed on either side of tracks? if not, something that would attract people like community gardens or a walkable path

If the railroad is not in use, create a designated pedestrian path on one side with benches to allow people to stop and sit and appreciate the view. Lighting is essential to increase safety along the walking path - and light always attracts people anyway, making the space user-friendly in the night too. More vegetation! Native shrubs and flowers that grow all year round to provide character and colour. Vegetation also facilitates in providing a microclimate that is comfortable, and not to mention a cosy and intimate atmosphere that increases a pedestrian's sense of belonging to a place. However, vegetation should not cut off the sightline into the stretch of path so that passers-by are able to look in and identify the function of the area, thus peaking their curiosity and inviting them into the space.
